The main challenge in designing the outdoor space of Peppermint in Cardiff was to meet the strict guidelines stipulated by the Cardiff City Planning and Conservation teams. In particular that new structures can be no taller than 250 cm and not be fixed to the existing building. That is why a self-bearing pergola with one foldable cover was the only possible solution to cover the 20 x 10 m outdoor area.”
Our customer chose the Zenit foldable pergola: he was persuaded by the quality of the construction and the design of the product. In an area with a high density of visitors, the bar owner realized that the pergola would have attracted and given a “wow” factor to the visitors as well as helped him stand out from competitors.
The initial needs of the project were to ensure constant protection in all weather conditions over quite a large area, to use a flat and foldable cover with a refined design that also met the architectonic provisions of preservation of Cardiff’s historical centre.
The installation of the pergola had a great impact on Peppermint business: the outdoor area is now completely integrated into the cocktail bar and has expended its capacity by about 70%, so that tables can be booked all year round. Peppermint is located in the heart of a very competitive district, rich in restaurants, bars and clubs. Moreover, when the Welsh national team plays at home at the nearby Principality Stadium, the city is full of tourists looking for a fun experience.
Obviously, in the event of rain, the Peppermint cocktail bar has a competitive advantage and the most interesting thing is that, whatever the weather condition, the visitors are attracted by the pergola and the place is always busy. A few months after the installations, the bar managers were enthusiastic and saying, “We adore our new pergola: it has changed our business completely.”
