The roof terrace of the St. Andrea Wine & Skybar in Budapest has been transformed into a large Place under the Sun by Gibus
The St. Andrea Wine & Skybar is one of Budapest’s trendiest bars, famous for its extensive drinks list which, among other things, offers not only the country’s best wines but also a wide variety of cocktails. This bar’s greatest asset is its roof terrace, which affords fantastic views over the city and Danube River. The terrace, which is already a unique, striking location in itself, has been transformed into a Place under the Sun by Gibus, thanks to the installation of the Velenda Libre system of motorised shade sails.
“Our intention,” explained Jozsef Szigetvari, manager of the St. Andrea Wine & Skybar, “firstly was to create an area to protect against the sun during the day using a high-quality, robust structure, but, however, not forgetting that our proximity to the Danube means the roof is subject rapid wind changes and unexpected air movements, which was an important aspect to think about when choosing the structure. In addition, it was essential that we covered the largest area possible so that the greatest number of people could enjoy our outdoor area on the roof.”
Thanks to its features, Velenda Libre by Gibus proved to be the perfect product for meeting the needs of the St. Andrea Wine & Skybar. It consists of a shade sail inspired by the nautical world, which is able to cover large areas while bringing a touch of style with its light, dynamic design. Furthermore, the great versatility of this product allowed us to create an installation tailored to the customer’s requests.
“In total we installed ten structures of different sizes,” recounted Gabor Szabo, CEO of Gege Hungary Ltd, the design studio involved in the installation, “using special securing solutions. This was because the terrace is divided into two parts, both of an elliptical shape, with a 30-metre flagpole in the middle of each. These poles couldn’t be dismantled as they are structural parts of the building, so we made use of the versatile features of Velenda Libre by installing the sails around the poles, as if they were central columns. This required particularly painstaking work, but it is also proof of how Gibus products can truly adapt to any context.”
“In addition, it should not be forgotten,” underlined Szabo again, “that Velenda Libre sails installed in the bar are equipped with a useful electronic sensor with motorised remote control, which, in practical terms, means that the sun roof opens automatically in the presence of sun and closes when a storm is arriving.”
The final result? Certainly outstanding, as the owner of the bar confirms, and who appreciated not only the product design, but also its rapid installation: once the project had been drawn up, only one week and eight people were needed to finish the work, giving the St. Andrea Wine & Skybar a spectacular Place under the Sun by Gibus for enjoying both the breathtaking view and the bar’s excellent offers in maximum comfort.
